Naval exercises in the Black Sea


The frigates Regele Ferdinand and Regina Maria, the corvettes Contraamiral Eustatiu Sebastian and Contraamiral Horia Macelaru, the logistic support school ship Constanta and two frigates of NATO Permanent Naval Group in Mediterranean Sea SNMG2_- will participate in naval exercises developed between June 12 and 15, in the Black Sea.

The common training consists in search and rescue exercises, re-fuelling on the sea, search and fight against submarines, riposte to the divers attack and communication exercise.

The two NATO frigates, ITS Grecale (Italy) and TCG Gokceada (Turkey) will arrive Friday, June 8, in Constanta Bay. The two frigates commanders will visit the Flotilla Command and the local authorities.


GRECALE frigate (F571) with a crew of 213 military (27 officers) is commanded by Captain Commander Flavio Biagi. The characteristics of the ship: displacement 3,200 tons; length=123 meters; width=12.88 meters and speed=33 knots. It was launched in September 12, 1981 and entered in service in December 9, 1982.
GOKCEADA frigate is commanded by Captain Commander Ahmet Gokhan Rahtuvan. The crew 235 military (24 officers). The characteristics of the ship: length=135.5 meters; width=14 meters; draught=6.5 meters and speed=29 knots.
