Young scouts are training in Sibiu

The fourth edition of the Scouts' Summer Camp will be developed between August 4 and 12, at the Army Academy Nicolae Balcescu in Sibiu.

The opening ceremony will occur Sunday, August 5, in the presence of deputy chief of Department for Parliament Liaison and Public Information, Major General Tudor Munteanu and the guest of honor, Colonel in reserve Cristian Topescu, the most known Romanian sport columnist.

The activity is organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Army Staff and in partnership with the National Authority of the Young and Manfred Worner Euro-Atlantic Association.

Developed under the motto Be the best! the Camp's aims are: promotion of the Romanian armed forces' image among the high schools students, the spirit of competition and team spirit, development and use of physical qualities of the young participants.

The scouts will learn to use the infantry armament and will have firings with the compressed air rifles. They will learn the main elements of scouts' training, orientation in terrain and survival in special situations. They will also have sport and military applicative activities (launch of grenades, cross on obstacles, military relay race) and will participate in cultural-artistic activities developed in this period within the program Sibiu European cultural capital, 2007.

The participants, 42 boys and girls, from Bucharest and Bistrita-Nasaud, Bacau, Braila, Caras-Severin, Constanta, Maramures, Mehedinti, Neamt, Olt, Prahova, Suceava, Teleorman, Vaslui and Valcea countries have been selected during the national competition developed on-line on the web site www.mapn.ro/tabara, between March and June 2007.
