Chief of General Staff will participate in the anniversary of the Navy IT Center

Chief of General Staff, Admiral Ph.D. Gheorghe Marin will participate Friday, August 31, at 10.30 a.m. in Constanta, in the festivity occasioned by the 30th anniversary since the establishment of the Navy IT Center.

The festivity consisting in military and religious ceremonies represents a special occasion for the former and the actual personnel of the unit to meet them and remember the special moments of their IT activity within the Navy. Leaders from the General Staff and the Navy Staff, Admirals and officers, on duty, in reserve and retreat, representatives of the local institutions and organizations are invited to participate in this event.


The Navy IT Center was established in August 30, 1977 and was called the Navy Computing Office. It was located in Mangalia garrison between 1977 and 1979, and then it was deployed in the present location.

Along the 30 years of existence, the IT Center devolved due to the efforts of the personnel and the modernization of the IT equipment, now being specialized for the analyze, design, implementation and maintenance of the systems and applications for the Navy; development, administration and maintenance of WAN type networks; grant the IT special technical assistance to the units within the are of responsibility; development and maintenance of the Navy web page on internet and transmission of data.

The IT Center uses the modern IT technology and the personnel is made of military and civilian specialists.

In the 30 years of existence, the IT Center was commanded by eight officers. Between 1989 and 1995 the unit was commanded by Lieutenant Commander Ph.D. Gheorghe Marin, the present Chief of General Staff.
