The Defense Minister signed today, September 7, at the suggestion of the chief of the General Staff, the order to appoint in rank, post-mortem, the hero Senior Sergeant Aurel Marcu.

Teodor Melescanu made the suggestion to the President of Romania for the decoration of post mortem Second Lieutenant Aurel Marcu, died on duty in Afghanistan, September 6, 2007.

Aurel Marcu was born in 1976 in Gaesti, Dambovita County and chief of the team of the anti-armoured carriers in the 33rd Mountain Battalion Posada from Curtea de Arges. He was married and had a child.

The armoured amphibious carrier was in mission and passed over an explosive device. After the deflagration, the driver, died and other four military were wounded.
