Chief of Polish General Staff in visit in Romania

Chief of General Staff, Admiral Ph.D. Gheorghe Marin met today, November 2, the chief of Polish General Staff, General Frantiszek Gagor in visit in Romania.

During the meeting, the two military leaders changed opinions on NATO military capability, Reaction Force in particular, and analyzed the evolution of bilateral military cooperation in the last period and explored their increase.

The two officials approached the issues on the military agenda of NATO Summit occurring in future spring in Bucharest, in 2008.
General Gagor was received by the chief of Department for Policy of Defense and Planning, Mr. Corneliu Dobritoiu, at the Ministry of Defense HQ.


General Frantiszek Gagor was born in 1951 in Koniuszowa, graduated the College of Mechanized Infantry Officers, in Wroclaw, in 1973. At the beginning of his career held command appointments in Tank units. Since 1978 was senior trainer in charge with preparation and training of the Polish contingents for the peace support operations and participated in many such type of missions. Between1988-89 he acted in the UN Command for disengagement as deputy chief of Logistics. Since 1990, he held different positions within the Polish General Staff, in training and international relations domain, and since 1991 he commanded the military contingent participating in the Desert Storm.
Since 1993 he held positions in peace maintain and control of armament, in the General Staff, and in 1996 was appointed as the director of the Department of Military International Relations and coordinated thus the participation of the Polish Armed Forces to the Partnership for Peace and the preparation to join NATO.
In 1999 was appointed chief of Operations within the General Staff and between 2004-06 was the military representative in NATO and the EU military committees. Since February 2006 he is in the present position.
He is married and has two children.
