ROMANIAN PARTICIPATION IN THE TURKISH MINEX 2007 INTERNATIONAL EXERCISE

Sublocotenent Alexantru Axinte maritime sweeper that participated for 15 days in TURKISH MINEX 2007 international exercise in the Turkish territorial waters and international waters of the Marmara Sea and the Aegean Sea is going to return home, Saturday, November 10.

The Romanian ship participated in the exercise alongside with ships of the host country, Greece and those comprised by the Naval Group of Permanent Mine Combat in the Mediterranean Sea for the increase of operational and tactical interoperability between the anti-mine participating forces.

The maritime sweeper is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Catalin Modoran; the crew is of 70 sailors and the March commander is Captain Commander Mihai Panait. On board of the sweeper there is an EOD diver team of 12 military that acted with specific means in the combat against the mines.

During the exercise they had trainings on sea and land in order to reduce the risk of mines in the designated area.


The characteristics of Sublocotenent Alexandru Axente maritime sweeper are: displacement- 800 tons; length-60.8 m; width-9.54m; draught-2.7m; max. speed-12 knots; propulsion-2 ALCO v12 engines.
