General Staff celebrating the 148th anniversary

The ceremony dedicated to the 148th anniversary of the General Staff existence occurred Monday, November 12, in the MoD Aula.

Mihai Stanisoara, Presidential Adviser, Admiral Ph.D. Gheorghe Marin, chief of General Staff, Georgeta Gavrila, the MoD General Secretary, parliamentarians, representatives of state institutions, officers, reserve and retreat officers from General Staff were the participants in the ceremony.

By the Minister's Order, they awarded the Badge of Honor of the Romanian Armed Forces, to the General Staff, as sign of high appreciation for the activity developed as the exemplary central structure in the fulfillment of missions and special contribution in the Romanian Armed Forces promotion.

Chief of General Staff awarded the Badge of Honor of the General Staff to Major Ioan Doru Sindie and Sergeant Mihai Cosmin Ceacaru for heroic behavior in their missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Generals, officers, NCOs and civilians from the General Staff were awarded with the Badge of Honor for professional activity and special services brought to the military structures.

The ceremony ended by a concert of the MoD Representative Band and soloists of the Armed Forces Artistic Assembly.


Major Ioan Doru Sindie acted with courage to save an US military from a carrier in flames due to the explosion of a bubby car during his mission of patrol in Afghanistan, in August 25, 2007.

Sergeant Mihai Cosmin Ceacaru coordinated the evacuation of NCO Daniel Porumb from an amphibious armored carrier damaged during the patrol on April 14, 2007 in Dhi Qar region, Iraq.

The Badges of Honor are honorific military distinctions that can be granted by the Defense Minister, chief of General Staff, other military officials for the professional activity and special merits.
