MoD leaders visited the Romanian military in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu and the chief of General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin and a military delegation visited today, November 23, the Romanian military acting in the theater of operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The military delegation had talks in Sarajevo, Camp Butmir, with EUFOR deputy commander, Brigade General Carmelo de Cicco and NATO HQ commander in the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Major General Richard Wightman Jr.

The Defense Minister and the chief of General Staff met the Romanian military in EUFOR ALTHEA mission. During their talks the MoD leaders were informed on the state of security in the deployment region, their logistic needs. Admiral Gheorghe Marin showed that all the difficulties the Romanian military are confronting with, are presented every two weeks by the commanders, through the video-conference system.

The military delegation also comprised the representatives of the Joint Logistic Command and the Human Resources Management Directorate and they were interested in the living conditions and the measures to be taken for their improvement, equipment of personnel and the quartering.

Minister Teodor Melescanu and Admiral Gheorghe Marin handed to all the Romanian military they met the Ro ARMY engraved watches, symbolic presents for the Christmas.

At the end of the visit in Sarajevo, the military delegation went to the Ministry of Defense for official talks with the Minister of Defense of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Selmo Cikotic. The main issues of talks were the state of security in the Western Balkans, the participation in the theaters of operations and the Romanian-Bosnian military cooperation.

Although the visit was initially programmed for the beginning of the day, the visit of the Romanian military acting within KFOR mission in Kosovo was postponed due to the weather conditions not allowing to take off on Pristina airport.
