Minister Teodor Melescanu on visit in Albania

The Romanian state is an old and good friend of Albania, and the best prove for this is the support we grant to its join to NATO stated in Tirana, the Defense Minister, Teodor Melescanu at the end of the official talks with his counterpart Fatmir Mediu.

The Romanian Defense Minister added that during the NATO Summit in Bucharest, our country will support the enlargement of the Alliance inviting Albania, Croatia and FYROM and maintaining the policy of the open doors to other states from the Black Sea region.

To strengthen the bilateral cooperation, yesterday in the after-noon, December 6, they signed The Plan of Romania-Albanian Military Cooperation for 2008 mainly on policy of defense and security, communications and informatics, training of personnel, legislation, finance and military equipment.

The official talks mainly aimed the state of relations of cooperation between the two armed forces, the environment of security in the Western Balkans and NATO evolution in the perspective of Bucharest Summit, next year.

They also have talks on the cooperation within the SEDM and SEEBRIG regional initiatives of cooperation and other issues on the Romanian-Albanian cooperation on military domain and policy of defense.

Yesterday, Minister Teodor Melescanu met the President of Republic of Albania, Bamir Topi and the Albanese Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The Ministry of Defense Teodor Melescanu is on official visit in the Republic of Albania between December 6 and 7, invited by the Albanese Defense Minister, Fatmir Mediu.
