Ceremony at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier

Chief of the General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin and the chiefs of the services laid wreaths during the military ceremony occurred today, December 10, at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier in Parcul Carol.

The event was dedicated to the heroes that 130 years ago fought in the War of Independency.

A MoD delegation headed by Rear-Admiral Victor Barbu is participating in the ceremonies in Bulgaria for the commemoration of the Romanian military that in December 10, 1877 paid their supreme sacrifice in the combats for the liberation of Pleven.


On November 28, 1877 (December 10, new style) occurred the final assault against Pleven with the Romanian armed forces special and very important contribution; the Ottoman forces' commander Osman Pasha surrendered to Colonel Mihail Cerchez, commander of the Romanian 2nd Division. The fall of Pleven had the decisive influence upon the latter course of the War.
Due to the Romanians' combats in 1877-78 campaign, Romania legitimated its State Independency on the fields of combat.
