The EU Military Committee Chairman visited Romania

The Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Henri Bentegeat, paid an official visit in Romania between February 13 and 15, invited by the Chief of the General Staff, Admiral Ph.D. Gheorghe Marin.

The visit comprised official talks with the Chief of General Staff, and the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The official talks focused on the relation between the Romanian Armed Forces and the EU military structures starting from the crisis management operations and missions led by the EU, the process of development of the EU defense capability, the military cooperation between NATO and the EU and the recent developments in the European security environment.

Friday, February 15, starting 13.10 hours, General Henri Bentegeat gave a press statement in Alba Iulia Hall at the National Military Club.

The European Union Military Committee is the highest military body set up within the Council for military advice and cooperation between the member states to prevent conflicts and to ensure consistency in crisis management. It is composed of the Chiefs of Defence of the member states. The MC Chairman is appointed by the Council for a three years term of office.
General Henri Bentegeat was born on May 27, 1946 in Talence, France. He graduated from Military Academy of Saint Cyr, history and Paris Institute of Political Studies. Along his military career, Henri Bentegeat assumed different operational responsibilities home, in France, and abroad, over the seas. He also had positions in international domain, in strategic affairs and political and military domain. He became Chief of Defence Staff in 2002, position he held till 2006. On November 6, 2006 he was appointed Chairman of the European Union Military Committee.
