Romanian-Bulgarian Contact

The Chief of the Romanian General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin met his Bulgarian counterpart, General Zlatan Stoikov, on February 19, during his official visit to Romania.
The official talks focused on the intention to strengthen the military cooperation both at bilateral level and within regional security initiatives, NATO and the European Union.
Admiral Marin briefed the Bulgarian guest on the implementation of the Romanian Armed Forces' Transformation Strategy and on the process of training and promoting the non-commissioned officers, the seargents and contract enlisted privates. Furthermore, the Romanian official highlighted some aspects regarding the Romanian troops' participation in international operations.
General Stoikov also had a brief meeting with the Romanian Defence Minister, Teodor Melescanu.
The Bulgarian official's agenda in Romania, between 18 and 21 February, also included a visits to the National Defence University, the Air Force Academy, and to a Mountain Troops Battalion, and a wreath-laying at the Unknown Soldier's Monument.
