Romanian Army Day - April 23

The Romanian Armed Forces celebrate the Army Day every year, on April 23. Army is the largest force in the Romanian military. Its celebration coincides with the Orthdox holiday of St. George bearer of victory -, who is the patron-saint of the land forces.

In all garrisons in the country, several events are organized to pay homage to the sacrifices and the traditions of the Army soldiers as well as to highlight the current reform of the Army.

Young people interested in a military career, citizens, political and military officials, active military personnel and veterans are invited to attend the event.

During the official ceremony to be held on April 23, at the Army Staff headquarters, 110 generals, officers, warrant officers and non-commissioned officers of the Land Forces will be awarded national medals (Order Military Virtue in rank of "Knight", with a peace sign and the Medal "Military Virtue" 3rd class, with a peace sign) and honorary medals (Honorary Emblem of the Romanian Armed Forces, Honorary Emblemof the General Staff, Honorary Emblem of the Land Forces).

Moreover, 136 officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and privates and contract-enlisted seargents will be awarded the Merrit Emblem "In the Service of Peace", 3rd class, and the "Participant in Overseas Operations" badge.

The medals are awarded for the exemplary fulfillment of missions, outstanding results in training and throughout the activities performed.
