The First Romanian-American Joint Committee

The Access Agreement Implementation Coordinating and Monitoring Centre in the Defence Policy and Planning Department organized, on April 21, the first meeting of the Romanian-American Joint Committee for the implementation of the stipulations in the Law no. 268 of June 29, 2006 on the 'Agreement between Romania and the United States of America regarding the activities of the US forces stationed on Romanian territory'.

Romanian and American officials approved the working procedures, the structure and the responsibilities of the Joint Committee as well as of the auxiliary bodies and of the administrative units.

The event was attended by State Secretary and Chief of Defence Policy and Planning Department, Corneliu Dobritoiu, other representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Defence, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and of the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reform. The United States of America was represented by Major General Robertus Remkes, head of the Strategies, Policies and Evaluation Directorate in the US European Command (EUCOM), representatives of US Army Europe (USAREUR) and of US Air Force Europe (USAFE), and by representatives of the US Embassy in Bucharest.

During the meeting, the general framework for the US forces' training programme in 2008 and the perspective for 2009 were presented, according to the Romanian-American Common Training Plan.
