Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO in visit in Romania

Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Sir John McColl, will have an official visit in Romania between September 4 and 5, invited by the Chief of General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin, Ph.D.
Admiral Marin, during the talks, presented the Romanian Army‘s transformation stressing on the fulfillment of the national engagements assumed towards the North Atlantic Alliance. General Sir John McColl was informed on the details of the Romanian military participation in NATO led missions, too.
General Sir John McColl had also a meeting with the State Secretary Corneliu Dobritoiu, chief of Department for Policy of Defense and Planning from the Ministry of Defence. The program also consists in lay of wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, the visit of the Training Centre by Simulation and of the Parliament Palace.


General Sir John McColl was commissioned into the 1st Battalion of the Royal Anglican Regiment. Along his career, he assumed command of different military posts, including deployments in international theatres of operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2002 he commanded the first International Security Assistance Force (ISAF 1). After a year he became Deputy Commander of the Multi National Force Iraq and in 2005 he took on the additional appointment of the Prime Minister's Special Envoy to Afghanistan.
