The Minister of Defence, Teodor Melescanu met Wednesday, September 24, the US Secretary of Defence, Robert Gates within the official visit paid in the United States of America between September 23 and 27, 2008.
The military cooperation and the real ways through which Romania and the United States could contribute to the increase of the process of peace and security in the regions where they are acting as allies were the main issues of their bilateral talks.
The transformation of NATO, the state of security in the Black Sea enlarged region and the process of peace in the Middle East were the topics that have been approached, too during the official talks.
Minister Melescanu will meet, during the visit, the political personalities from the State Department and the National Security Council and the leaders from the US Congress.
