Celebration of the Day of the War Heroes

The Ministry of National Defence will celebrate on Thursday, May 28, the Day of the War Heroes, by organizing military and religious ceremonies in memory of the people who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the homeland
Such festivities will be organized across the country in cooperation with the local authorities, the National Office for Heroes’ Memory, the War Veterans and representatives of the different religions.
• The troops in the theaters of operations will participate in ceremonies in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in defence of the land and the interests of Romania.
• The ceremonies will begin on Wednesday, May 27, at 11.00 a.m. with a symposium on Eternal Homage to the Heroes of the Romanian People, organized by the National Military Museum Regele Ferdinand I, and hosted by concert hall of the National Military Club.
The event will consist of presentations of papers on history topics, a cultural program offered by the Military Music Band and the choir of the Orthodox Theological Highschool Nifon Mitropolitul as well as the launching of the volume of memoirs \'Prizonier in lagarele sovietice\' [POW in a Soviet Camp] by Maj. (Ret.) Sandu V. Cernat.
• In Bucharest several ceremonies will be organized consisting of wreath-laying, on Thursday May 28, starting with 10.00 a.m., at the Israeli Cemetry Filantropia (B-dul Ion Mihalache) at 11.00 a.m., and after 12.00 o’clock at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier, (Parcul Carol), The Memorial of the National Heroes (in front of the National Defence University Carol I), The Cemetry of the Heores of the Revolution (Calea Serban Voda), The Cemetry of WW 1 and WW 2 Heroes (The Military Cemetry Ghencea).
Military pilots of the Air Force will bring homage to the national heroes by conducting a flight over the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier during the ceremony with three IAR 330 SOCAT helicopters (the 90th Transport Air Base Otopeni) and three MiG 21 Lancer (the 86th Air Base Fetesti).
The Day of the Heroes was procclaimed national holiday by Law 379 of 2003, while the manifestations dedicated to this event are organized, according to Christian tradition, at the date when the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated
