The 21st Mountain Troops General Leonard Mociulschi Battalion from Predeal handed over its tasks in Afghanistan to the 280th Mechanized Infantry from Focsani during a military ceremony organized at Lagman Base in Qalat, on Friday July 3.

The ceremony was attended by Brig. Gen. John Nicholson, deputy commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, by Mohammed Ashraf Nasseri, Governor of the Zabul Province, Police and ANA commanders and COL Gheorghe Vatamanu, commander of Zabul Task Force.

The military ceremony began with a minute’s silence in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives while on duty in Afghanistan.

In his speech, Brig. Gen. John Nicholson appreciated the six months activity of the Viperele Negre and wished the newcomers a successful activity in their future actions.

The Governor of Zabul Province thanked the troops of the 21st Infantry Battalion for the support they offered to the Afghan population and for maintaining a peaceful environment in the province.
