The Land Forces’ self evaluation activity on 2009
The Land Forces Staff held a meeting on Wednesday, January 13, attended by the of the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Gabriel Oprea, the State Secretary of Defence Policy and Planning, Mr. Viorel Oancea and the chief of General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin, Ph.D.; the topic of the meeting was the annual report of the Land Forces Staff.
At the end of the activity, Minister Gabriel Oprea appreciated the efforts the Land Forces soldiers made in 2009 despite the budgetary restrains and the economic crisis. "Our plans for 2010 have to be in agreement with the MoND budget allotted. My priorities are the review of the role of the General Staff and services and the provision of the most favorable conditions of training and accomplishing the missions in the theaters of operations. The Romanian soldiers fighting together with our allies and partners are Romania's best ambassadors outside the country and I wish that at home, we should be adequately respected, too. For this, we should work together and be real professionals we are in everything we do".
The chief of Land Forces Staff, Major General Dan Ghica Radu, Ph.D. talked of the efforts the Land Forces' personnel made to fulfill the established goals, to ensure the necessary equipment; he also presented the difficulties in managing the human and material resources during the year that was full of challenges with lots of budgetary rectifications. The Romanian Land Forces successfully ended the mission in the theater of operations in Iraq and made a sustained logistic effort to bring home the equipment and materials they used in their six years of mission.
The chief of General Staff said the activities the Land Forces' personnel have developed on 2009 and stressed on the commanders' obligations for the troops training state. Admiral Marin asked for a better implication and promotion of viable solutions to improve the activities in each and every domain analyzed, and stressed on the military order and discipline issues.
At the end of the activity, State Secretary Viorel Oancea praised for the troop's achievements and stressed on the necessity to initiate and run on the realistic programmes based on the necessities and in close concordance with the ear-marked budgetary resources.
The chief of the Air Force Staff, the chief of Navy Staff, Generals and officers from the General Staff and the MoND central structures, commanders of units and big units from the Land Forces were present in this event, too.
