A soldier of the 33rd Maneuver Battalion deployed in Afghanistan was wounded on Friday, February 19, at about 5 a.m. (Romanian time).
A HMMWV vehicle passed over an improvised explosive device at about 20 km south-east of Qalat, Zabul province; the vehicle was in patrol mission on A1 Kabul-Kandahar high way.
Warrant Officer Eugen Manaila was wounded on his right leg. He was transported by helicopter to Lagman base hospital to suffer a surgery; and later on he was transported to the military hospital in Kandahar.

The National Defence Minister, Mr. Gabriel Oprea and the chief of General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin are informed permanently on the wounded soldier's state of health.

The 33rd Maneuver Battalion has begun the mission in Afghanistan on February. Nowadays, the Romanian Armed Forces deploy 1025 soldiers in Afghanistan, mainly in Zabul province.
