Two C-27J SPARTAN aircraft landed on Monday, April 12, at the 90th Otopeni Airbase.

The aircraft are offered for use, free of charge, by Alenia Aeronautica SpA Company. The layout and equipment are meant to improve military pilots’ training level. This way, the operational process and the responsibility transfer of the aircraft will be done gradually. The two aircraft will be part of the Romanian Air Force after their final configuration, in agreement with the requirements of the acquisition contract.

From March 18 to April 1, a mixed team of Air Force specialists from the Department for Armaments and the Research and Flight Test Center made the testing and technical evaluation on the ground and in the air of the two aircraft, in the industrial facilities of the producing company.

SPARTAN aircraft to replace ANTONOV-26 aircraft is part of the provisions in the Defence Procurement Strategy of the Romanian Armed Forces for 2005 to 2012 and a long term perspective by 2025 aimed at developing and modernizing the operational transport capabilities of the Romanian Armed Forces.

One of the two C-27 J SPARTAN aircraft will be exhibited at BSDA 2010, at ROMAERO - Baneasa, from April 13 to 15
