The Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea signed an order that awards Sergeant Major Valerica Leu the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, for the supreme sacrifice he made while fulfilling his task in Afghanistan.

The defence minister has also submitted the President of Romania the proposition to award 2nd Lieutenant (post-mortem) Valerica Leu the National Order Steaua Romaniei in grad de Cavaler [Star of Romania, the Knight Rank] for military men.
