The Minister of National Defence, Gabriel Oprea, participated in the National Conference on the Anniversary of the National Association of Reservists and Retired Military Personnel (A.N.C.M.R.R.), held at the Palace of the National Military Club on Friday, June 18.

As of this year, on May 31st we celebrate the Reservist Day, minister Oprea said. We decided we should have a day dedicated to honoring our comrades who had a career in the service of their country and the Colours, who fought under the slogan Homeland, Honor, Dignity, for the noble goals of the Romanian Armed Forces.

'This day also marks 85 years since the establishment of the first association of reservists and retired military personnel and 20 years since the tradition has been resumed by the National Association of Reservists and Retired Military Personnel' Minister Gabriel Oprea added.

The defence minister reassured the reservists that he would endorse the promotion of all draft laws supporting solutions for the social problems this category of personnel had: 'As defence minister, honorary chairman of your association and a man who cherishes the values of the Romanian soldier – honour, discipline and solidarity – I am aware of the problems you face, related to the quality of everyday life and pensions and I assure you I will be very in my demand that you be treated with the dignity and respect you deserve for having served the country '.

Minister Gabriel Oprea awarded the Romanian Armed Forces Emblem of Honour to the A.N.C.M.R.R. Colours, 'Alexandru Ioan Cuza', also to reservist and retired officers as a token of respect for their outstanding contribution to the prestige of the Romanian Armed Forces and for a lifetime dedicated to promoting military values.

Minister Oprea and Gen. (R), Prof. Mihai Iliescu, Ph.D. awarded degrees and the A.N.C.M.R.R. Emblem to officers, retired officers and reservists, to representative local and cultural figures.
