At the request of the local authorities, some 100 troops of the Ministry of National Defence intervened during the last 24 hours in support of the population in Botosani and Galati counties seriously affected by floods, to contain their effects on the flood stricken towns.

Troops of the artillery and logistical units in Botosani County evacuated population from the towns of Dorohoi and Sendriceni and worked to unblock the routes. Troops of the tank and infantry units in Galati worked to raise a dam to defend Sendreni town from the waters of Siret River.

Last week, at the request of the local authorities, troops onboard of vehicles and lifeboats came to the rescue of people isolated by the floods, that took refuge on the roofs of their houses in the towns of Aiud, Ciumbrud and Lopadea Noua, Alba County.

Specialized structures of the General Staff in the defence ministry are permanently monitoring the situation in the country in order to be able to intervene at the request of
local authorities, in accordance with the cooperation plans established for emergency situations.
