A ceremony marking the handing over the Colors of the 1st CIMIC Battalion was organized at the unit headquarters on Wednesday, September 1.


Alongside battalion personnel, the ceremony was attended by Secretary of State Mihail Vasile-Ozunu, Brigadier General Dumitru Scarlat, the General Staff, Brigadier General Mihai Silviu Popescu, the Land Forces Staff.

'Today, you celebrate nine years since your structure has been established. You are handed over the unit Colors, symbolizing military glory and honor, which you should serve with faith and devotion as all troops served the National Colors along the years, in their struggle to accomplish the Romanian national ideals\' said the message sent by defence minister Gabriel Oprea to the troops.

The defence minister’s message also spoke of CIMIC missions Romanian troops conducted in the theaters of operations as part of the general effort Romanian military make for the success of the operations our country is involved in internationally.

'CIMIC experts offer support and relief wherever they conduct their operations, identifying the needs of local people, realizing projects that result in schools, hospitals, roads, water facilities or other important objectives. The projects you implement in the theaters of operations, the assistance of local authorities and civil population contribute to the positive image of Romanian troops in the operation areas', emphasized the minister in his message.

The minister appreciated the activity of the troops at home, especially during the floods, when CIMIC troops \'restored the hopes of the population and their belief that the military is always by the side of those in need, always ready to overcome difficult situations '.

During the ceremony, the military personnel were awarded diplomas and badges bearing the unit coat of arms.
