The Minister of National Defence, Mr.Gabriel Oprea, is on an official visit in the People's Republic of China from November 10 to 15, at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Liang Guanglie.

The agenda of the talks includes topics such as bilateral military cooperation, modernization of the military, security in areas of strategic interest for the armed forces of the two countries as well as aspects concerning non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Minister Oprea will participate in "Friendship Action 2010", the Romanian-Chinese joint training exercise conducted in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the People's Republic of China; he will meet with the Romanian soldiers and they will discuss the training programme conducted alongside their Chinese partners.

The minister's programme includes meetings with representatives of the Central Military Committee and visiting some military units. Mr. Oprea will also visit Sergeant (R) Daniel Porumb, who has been admitted to the Neurological Institute "Hongtianji", for specialized treatment on November 1 (On April 14, 2007, while in Iraq with the 495th Infantry Battalion, Daniel Porumb was injured during a patrol mission near Tallil. In 2007, he was admitted to the Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany for surgery. Later, he was in hospital at the Military Hospital in Bucharest for a post-surgery recovery programme.).
