The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Gabriel Oprea participates, as part of the Romanian delegation headed by President Traian Basescu, in the NATO Summit organized in Lisbon, on November 19 and 20.

NATO's New Strategic Concept will be presented at the Summit. Romania has also contributed to the development of the concept during several working groups organized at the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The concept defines the Alliance’s strategic priorities in the next decade.

The Summit agenda includes the reform of NATO military command structures and NATO agencies, the development of NATO capabilities in missile defence, the transition process in Afghanistan, NATO-Russia relations and current security environment.
