Today, military aircraft C-27 J SPARTAN flies back to Malta, for a second mission and is to stay on standby there ready for any emergency, in accordance with the number of flights established by the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aircraft took off from the 90th Airlift Flotilla heading for La Valetta Airport.

The first mission of this aircraft ended successfully this morning when it landed on the Henri Coanda International Airport at 03.15 hrs, bringing back from Libya 24 Romanian citizens, three Czechs, two Greeks and two Bulgarians.

On Saturday afternoon, C-130 HERCULES, on standby in Malta, would take off for Tripoli, Libya to evacuate a group of about 50 Romanian citizens.

The mission the Romanian Air Force conducts these days is the first if this kind since WW2. The defence minister is permanently updated on any developments. He ordered the crisis cell organized by the defence ministry to take any steps necessary to evacuate Romanian citizens who request it through the responsible authorities.

The Ministry of National Defence will keep public opinion informed on the flights made by the military aircraft conducting this mission.

The Romanian Government adopted on Wednesday, February 23, a decision on the special measures to be taken following the crisis situation and humanitarian crisis underway in the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
