PRESS INFORMATION

The meeting of the Mixed Romanian-American Committee for the implementation of the provisions of the Agreement between Romania and the United States of America on the activities of US troops stationed in Romania, a document generally refered to as the Access Agreement, was hosted by the Palace of the National Military Club on Thursday, May 19.

Durin the reunion, the Romanian and US officials reviewd the activities conducted since their last meeting in December 2010. Briefings were made on: medium-term use of facilities at the disposal of US troops as provided by the Access Agreement, exercises Black Sea Rotational Force and Combined Endeavor, the environment conditions at Mihail Kogalniceanu Administrative Center, the arms control and checking organized in Romania in 2010.

The two parties discussed: ways of implementing the Access Agreement, the possibility to review some of the provisions, the situation of the buildings at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Administrative Center, other currents issues.

The Romanian delegation, headed by State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, Viorel Oancea, consisted of experts and guests of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Environment and Forrests, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Administration for State Reserves and Special Issues.

The US delegation, headed by Major General Paul Schafer, Director of Strategy, Policy and Assessments, US European Command (USEUCOM), included experts and guests from USEUCOM, USAREUR, USAFE, MARFOREUR, as well as representatives of the US Embassy in Bucharest.
