A delegation of the Ministry of National Defence headed by the State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, Mr. Viorel Oancea, participated in the reunion of the Foreign Affairs Council and the reunion of the Steering Committee of the Euopean Defence Agency in Brussels, on Monday, May 23.

The two events were chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs. Catherine ASHTON.

Focus was set on EU military operations and missions, particularly the latest developments in Somalia (maritime operation Atalanta and training mission EUTM), in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Althea), in Libya as well as on the Union defence capabilities.

In conclusion, the Steering Committee of the Euopean Defence Agency reiterated the need of to contribute and share defence capabilities by member states and the implications of EU policies on the defence sector.
