During a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters on Friday, December 9, Gabriel Oprea promoted 2nd Lieutenant Daniel-Catalin Trefas in rank, for exceptional merits, after being wounded in Afghanistan.

As a token of respect and gratitude for his commitment and courage he was offered the Emblem 'Onoarea Armatei Romaniei' [Honorary Emblem of the Romanian Armed Forces] with war insignia by minister Gabriel Oprea.

The defence minister showed concern and asked the officer of his health and recovery. Lieutenant Trefas thanked the minister for his concern and the decoration, stating he is in good health and ready to leave soon in a new mission.

Lieutenant Daniel-Catalin Trefas, aged 24, commander of an Engineer Platoon, was wounded in the theater of operations in Afghanistan on November 15, 2011, by the explosion of an improvised explosive device. The officer was treated and underwent recovery procedures at the military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany and later at the military hospital in Bucharest.
