The Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea ordered that all available vehicles and engineering equipment, as well as troops from units in areas affected by snow storms and ongoing snowing, be prepared to come to the urgent assistance of the population in distress, if so requested by central and local authorities.

This morning, minister Gabriel Oprea approved the intervention of a detachment of 60 operating 12 vehicles in the area of Uzunu, Giurgiu County.

Also today morning, a detachment of 35 and nine vehicles of the Land Forces Staff started, at the request of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situation of Ilfov County, to act in the area of Sindrilita, Ilfov County, on DN2 for the evacuation of people in distress and clearing cars from snow.

30 troops of the 2nd 'Getica' Infantry Division work with four trucks to clear the cars blocked by snow on DN 2B, between Buzau and Faurei and European Route 85, in the area Buzau-Ramnicu Sarat and Buzau-Urziceni. Around 5 a.m., the troops evacuated from Galbinasi and transported to Buzau Railway Station and the cafetaria of Avicola Buzau some 100 people from the cars blocked in the snow.

The intervention of the 2nd 'Getica' Infantry Division In Mihailesti, Buzau County continues. Over 40 troops work with three vehicles in the area since Wednesday evening when the Prefect of Buzau requested the assistance of the military in order to clear from snow some 100 vehicles on European Route 85. During the night, about 100 people were accomodated in a school in Mihailesti.

The defence ministry, keeps the situation in the country under observation, through its specialized structure in the General Staff so that when requested by the responsible authorities they should be able to intervene in support of the population affected by the extreme weather conditions.
