On Thursday, January 26, the chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Stefan Danila met with Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Stephane ABRIAL.

The two officials had discussions on Romania`s intention to participate in multinational cooperation projects, in developing and sharing military capabilities as part of NATO initiative Smart Defence, and to document the prospects of implementing Smart Defence initiative and related recommendations.

Lieutenant General Stefan Danila highlighted our cooperation with the EU in a similar initiative (Pooling and Sharing) in order to avoid duplication of NATO and EU member states` efforts.

General Abrial thanked for our country`s contribution to NATO initiative of developing and sharing capabilities and emphasized that Romania and ACT share the same vision in this field.

On the same day, General Abrial had a meeting with Mr. Viorel Oancea, State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, on the agenda of the future activities to be organized within NATO initiative Smart Defence and the decisions to be taken at the Chicago Summit in May 2012.
