The Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea approved that a military tugboat of the Romanian Navy ensure, starting Tuesday, January 31, the daily transportation of people along the Danube River, between Tulcea and Tudor Vladimirescu. The County Committee for Emergency Situation requested Tuesday the assistance of the Ministry of National Defence, as circulation of commercial boats on the Danube is restricted. The interdiction was issued by the Tulcea Harbor Master`s Office due to ice blocks floating on the river.

The commander of the military boat crew is Captain Commander Nicu Dumbrava. The boat will make three round trips a day in the working days and two round trips during the weekend, in order to assist the people of Tudor Vladimirescu, who became isolated due to weather conditions. The military mission will unfold according to a schedule agreed with the local authorities and will be adapted to the weather and hydrographic conditions.

The defence ministry keeps the situation in the country under observation, through its specialized structure in the General Staff so that they should be able to intervene in support of the population affected by the extreme weather conditions.
