A Romanian delegation of the Ministry of National Defence headed by State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, Mr. Viorel Oancea, participates in the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers, in Brussels, on February 2 and 3. On the first day of the reunion, NATO ministers will discuss NATO-led operation in Afghanistan and take stock of progress on transition focusing on the reform of NATO agencies, military command structures and headquarters as well as resizing structures involved in developing capabilities. Another working session will focus on Smart Defence, ways to respond to new threats in times of economic austerity and Missile Defence.
On Thursday morning, the Romanian delegation met with General John Allen, ISAF Commander, to discuss the main goals of ISAF, the developments of the transition in Afghanistan, the vision on the Afghan Security Forces.
On Friday, the second day of the reunion, NATO Defence Ministers will be joined by Ministers from non-NATO KFOR troop contributors to discuss the situation in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
