On Wednesday, February 5, the Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea ordered that sea rescue tug 'Grozavul', be prepared to break ice on Danube channel Sulina. The military ship will leave Constanta harbor today and will begin its work on Monday morning. The ship has a crew of 40 sailors, a 2,7 ton displacement and can break ice of up to 15 cm thick in harbors and on the Danube.

The military continued their interventions in support of the population affected by massive snow falls and snow storms through Saturday and Sunday.

An Infantry Fighting Vehicle, MLI 84 M, of the 282nd Mechanized Brigade from Focsani, equipped for medical evacuation and a crew of five troops, intervened Saturday evening, February 4, to evacuate a woman in need of urgent medical assistance from Vintileasca, Vrancea County. The same vehicle starts on Sunday, February 5, at 12 a.m. the medical evacuation of a woman and a man in need of medical assistance, from Balta Alba, Buzau County.

Also on Sunday, at the request of the Prefect`s Office of Vrancea County, a military detachment of the 8th LAROM Brigade, carry out a mission in Chiojdeni, Vrancea County with a DAC 6x6 truck for the evacuation of a nine month pregnant woman.

In Lipova, Arad County, two detachments of the 185th Logistic Support Battalion worked on Saturday and Sunday at clearing of snow two bridges over Mures river.

On Saturday, troops of a logistic unit in Targoviste carried drinking water to the people in Schela Mare neighborhood of Moreni Municipality,.

On Suturday afternoon, a military detachment of the 8th LAROM Brigade, intervened with a DAC 6x6 truck to clear of snow an ambulance that was blocked on county road DJ 205.

The Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea ordered Wednesday evening, February 1st, that troops and equipment be prepared to offer assistance all over the country, if requested by local or central authorities, for the containment of the effects of massive snowfalls, snow storms and extreme weather conditions forecast for February 2 to 7.

The defence ministry keeps the situation in the country under observation, through its specialized structure in the General Staff so that they should be able to intervene in support of the population affected by the extreme weather conditions.

The military are ready to intervene with about 4000 troops and 1000 equipment. Personnel can be increased with up to another 4000 troops according to developments.
