Troops and equipment of the defence ministry continue on Tuesday, February 14, to operate on land , by air or river to save lives endangered by the massive snowfalls and storms and to distribute food, basic goods and to clear access roads of snow.
By Tuesday morning, almost 210 tons of food have been distributed on land or by to people in 41 isolated localities in Giurgiu, Braila, Vrancea, Buzau and Ialomita counties, at the requests of local authorities. Food and basic goods were provided by associations and businesspersons in the food industry or collected at the 40 centers established by the defence ministry to this end in Bucharest and other garrisons across the country.
The coordination center of the air bridge established at the 90th Air Flotilla bz order of the defence minister scheduled air missions for C27 J SPARTAN, C-130 HERCULES and IAR-330 PUMA helicopters on Tuesday. Three aircraft SPARTAN will carry 18 tons of food from Timisoara to Otopeni and Mihail Kogalniceanu, while a HERCULES will take over about 15 tons of aid from 71st Air Flotilla Campia Turzii to be taken to the transit center in Bacau. From Mihail Kogalniceanu and Otopeni, IAR-330 helicopters will take the food to isolated localities in Buzau, Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ialomita and Braila counties. The aid will be taken over from the 95th Air Flotilla in Bacau by troops of the 2nd Infantry Division that will take them further by trucks to localities in Vrancea County or will be carried by helicopter to isolated localities should weather conditions allow it and as requested by local authorities.
At the 'Muntenia' Logistic Support Base, 36 trucks are ready, loaded with about 160 tons of food, to leave to areas affected by massive snowfalls should the weather conditions allow it. This afternoon, the trucks will head for areas with people isolated by snow in Teleorman, Ialomita and Calarasi counties.
The military intervened and continue to do so in counties from Muntenia, Dobrogea and south Moldova. Troops of the 2nd Infantry Division work to clear of snow access routes in Sageata, Valea Salciei, Buzau County. In Vrancea County, detachments of the 8th LAROM Brigade work in Dumitresti to clear roads of snow.
Monday night and Tuesday morning, a team of the 282nd Mechanized Brigade Focsani evacuate a sick person from Vulturul with a IFV equipped for MEDEVAC, to the county hospital. The same team evacuates a sick child from Maicanesti and takes him to the hospital.
A detachment of the Engineers' Training Center continues to clear roads of snow in the area of Balcesti, Valcea County.
In Braila County, over 100 troops of the 10th Engineering Brigade and the Naval Base intervene for the clearing of roads in Ciocile.
The sea rescue tug 'Grozavul' ensures the transport of from Sulina to Tulcea, and continues to break the ice on Sulina channel while ensuring the transportation of people from isolated localities in the Danube Delta. River tugboat 328 continues to transport people between Tulcea and Tudor Vladimirescu.
The Ministry of National Defence keeps the situation in the country under observation, through its specialized structure in the General Staff and can respond to requests from local and central authorities with 8000 troops and 2000 equipment, for the containment of
the effects of massive snowfalls and snow storms, as ordered by the the Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea.
