The deputy chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Dan Ghica-Radu, participates in the annual Reunion of deputy ChoDs within the regional initiative South-East Defence Ministerial (SEDM), held in Sofia, on 26-28 June.
The reunion brings together military representatives of SEDM member countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, FYROM, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, the USA, Turkey and Ukraine). The Republic of Moldova and Georgia participate as observers. Present at the activity are also representatives of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples and Brunssum respectively, representatives of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), of the Regional Arms Control Verification and Implementation Assistance Centre (RACVIAC), a regional initiative recognized internationally by the main actors of the European defence system.
The meeting in Sofia, will focus primarily on the activities organized and conducted under SEDM umbrella, the present state and the perspectives of SEDM, taking into consideration the need of continued regional cooperation, with emphasis on making efective the main cooperation projects, as well as creating the procedures that would allow the engagement of the Multinational South Eastern Europe Brigade - SEEBRIG (operational and multinational componenet of SEDM) in a theater of operations.
At present, SEDM chairmanship is ensured by Italy, that will be followed by Romania in 2013.
