The chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Stefan Danila, met at the defence ministry, on Tuesday, 26 June, with General Richard Shirreff, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR), who is on official visit in Romania.
The two officials discussed Romanian Armed Forces' contribution to NATO-led operations in Afghanistan (ISAF), Kosovo (KFOR), the Mediterranean Sea (Active Endeavour) and EU-led operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Althea). The talks agenda also included NATO-EU strategic partnership and conflict management in the 21st century.
After a face-to-face meeting with the chief of General Staff, General Richard Shirreff participated in a briefing on the Romanian Armed Forces transformation and the active participation of Romanian troops in NATO and EU operations.
In the afternoon, General Shirreff met with defence minister Corneliu Dobritoiu.
The program of the NATO official also includes a visit to the 2nd Calugareni Infantry Battalion in Bucharest, a unit that has participated in missions in the theaters of operations of Angola, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan since 1995.
