A double-control IAR 99 Soim aircraft of the Research and Trial Flights in Craiova crashed in Dolj County, at about 10.30, on Thursday, 23 August.

The pilot died upon impact whereas the flight instructor, who managed to catapult himself, is wounded and was immediately taken by a SMURD team for medical care.

The aircraft was carrying out a training flight and crashed shortly after taking off, about 500 meters away of the northern end of the airstrip.

An investigation team of the Ministry of National Defence is in charge with finding the cause of the accident.
