State Secretary Dan Tataru participated in the activities celebrating 'The Day of Mountain Troops', organized in Targu Ocna, on Friday, 2 November.

The military and religious ceremony attended by government representatives and local authorities, active, reserve and retired military personnel and citizens took place at the Monument of the Mountain Troops in the center of the town.
During the ceremony, State Secretary Dan Tataru offered honorary diplomas to representatives of the National Association of War Veterans and laid wreath at the monument.

The state secretary spoke of the courage the troops showed ever since WW1: 'The Mountain Troops started fighting the enemy and they were directly involved in the defence of localities Targu Ocna, Ciresoaia, Vranceanu and Oituz, where they showed courage and sacrifice, which brought them the appreciation of the Russian, French and Romanian commands and the respect of the enemy'. Mr. Tataru emphasized the importance of this military branch to this day: 'The dynamism, efficiency and responsibility of the training, the promotion of effective solutions to all sorts of problems led to rendering the Mountain Troops units operational and able to carry out missions in the theaters of operations in Westerns Balkans and Afghanistan.'

At the end of the ceremony, the state secretary and the commander of the 22nd Mountain Troops Battalion visited the monument dedicated to the heroes killed on duty in WW1, located on Dealul Ciresoaia, to lay wreath.
