Bilateral Meeting of Defence Ministers of Romania and Georgia

The meeting took place against the background of the North Atlantic Council meetings of Defence Ministers held in Brussels on 4 and 5 June 2013

The bilateral talks agenda included topics of common interest, such as the evolution of the regional security environment and improving defence cooperation.
Minister Mircea Dusa declared that the Romanian Government makes a priority of the developments in the extended Black Sea region, which is vital to the security interests of our country. 'Romania takes into account the regional security of the Black Sea based on its status of riparian as well as NATO and EU member', the Romanian official said. At the same time, he emphasized the support our country is going to give to Georgia with a view to its NATO and EU integration.

The Georgian Defence Minister, Irakli Alasania, thanked especially to Romania that holds the mandate of Contact Point Embassy in Tibilisi, for the constant support given to his country with a view to its NATO and EU integration.

Also, the two delegations discussed ways of extending defence bilateral cooperation and of assessing opportunities and possibilities to develop training and instruction programs for Special Forces.
