The Minister of National Defence at the Anniversary Ceremony of the Special Detachment of Protection and Intervention

The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, participated in the ceremony marking the anniversary of the Special Detachment of Protection and Intervention of the defence ministry, today, 3 September.

Minister Dusa congratulated the personnel for their professional achievements both at home and abroad, highlighting the professionalism of the troops that manned the detachment during the 15 years of existence.

'The Special Detachment of Protection and Intervention ensured the security of human and material resources of the Ministry of National Defence and in case of highly visible political and military or military events, such as NATO, Russia and Ukraine Defence Ministerial, NATO Summit or the Conference of NATO Military Committee. This military unit also contributes to the effort the defence ministry pledged itself to during international missions in theaters of operations', the defence minister said.

A drill was carried out during the ceremony and an exhibition was organized on the same occasion.

The Special Detachment of Protection and Intervention was founded on 1 September 1998 under the name Guard and Protection Detachment.

In 2008, the unit received its colors by presidential decree. That same year, the unit was awarded the Emblem of Honor of Defence Intelligence, as a token of recognition of its merits and efforts made along the years in fulfilling its missions and tasks.
