The Second Day of NATO Defence Ministers Meeting in Brussels

The agenda of 23 October included the meeting of NATO-Russia Council attended by the Russian defence minister, Serghei Shoigu, and the reunion of ISAF partners.

During the meeting of NATO-Russia Council, the allies voiced their satisfaction for resuming meetings at defence ministers level and expressed their satisfaction that this dialogue format will continue on a regular basis with a view to increasing transparency and mutual trust among the members of NATO-Russia Council.

The developments of practical cooperation in Afghanistan were also appreciated, along with those concerning the recent steps taken to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.

During the extended meeting with the ISAF partners, the latest developments in the Afghan theater of operations were presented and the preparations for the presidential elections in Afghanistan next year. The defence ministers expressed their confidence that the evolution of the relations with the Afghan party would evolve in such a way as to allow a rapid transition to the future NATO training and assistance mission, Resolute Support, in this country.

Reassessing Romania`s political and operational commitment to a successful transition in Afghanistan, according to the calendar, was emphasized once more by the Romanian delegation.
