Visit of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe

The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, received General Philip M. Breedlove, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe at the defence ministry, on Thursday 30 January. General Philip M. Breedlove is in Romania for a two-days visit at the invitation of the chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Stefan Danila.

General Breedlove was keen on congratulating Romania on its 10 years anniversary since joining NATO and thanked for the constant support given, over the years, to allied operations such as ISAF in Afghanistan, KFOR mission in Kosovo, Air Police service in the Baltic Countries, Active Endeavor or operation Ocean Shield.

The US official said that 2014 is an important year for Romania as it celebrates 10 since NATO integration and 20 years since signing the PfP agreement. Mircea Dusa told General Breedlove that Romania endorses the allied commitment in Afghanistan post-2014 and the Alliance`s intention to improve training and exercises for a better interaction with NATO partners.

During the meeting with Lieutenant General Stefan Danila, the topics covered were missile defence and NATO air defence system, the stage of the operations conducted with the allies, especially the development of the operations in Afghanistan and the future mission, Resolute Support.

They also reviewed the activities within the implementation plan of NATO - Connected Forces Initiative, the transformation of NATO command structures and the implementation of Regional Focus concept.
