NATO Day Celebrated at the Ministry of National Defence

The Day of the North Atlantic Alliance will be celebrated through events organized in all locations hosting military units, in the countries where Romania has military attaches, in military bases in theaters of operations where there are deployed Romanian troops.

Service staffs, commands and military units across the country organize on this occasion military ceremonies, the Open Gates Day, cultural, artistic and sports activities, symposiums and exhibitions.

On 6 April, in Bucharest, there will be organized a military ceremony, the Open Gates Day, at the Ministry of National Defence starting at 09.00 and another military ceremony starting at 11.00 at the Monument of the heroes who fell on duty in theaters of operations (Tineretului Park).

On Monday, 7 April, a symposium on "NATO Enlargement in 2004: a decade of robust contributions, responsibility and engagement for a new Alliance" will be organized at 10.00, in the Human Rights Hall of the Parliament. Additional information will be timely given for the journalists interested in participating in the activity.

Romania joined NATO in March 29, 2004, by depositing the ratification documents at the US State Department, as the USA is the depository state of the North Atlantic Alliance Treaty. On 2 April 2004 there followed a ceremony when Romania`s Colors were officially hoisted at NATO HQ. As of 2005, "NATO Day" is celebrated in Romania on the first Sunday of April.
