The Armed Forces A Different Kind of School

About 36,000 students from over 600 schools of Bucharest participated in the project 'Armata - O scoala altfel' conducted in Bucharest, by the Ministry of National Defence in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, over 7 to 11 April.

Military units of all military services and military education and cultural institutions across the country presented military equipment, specific practical activities and the possibilities to access military education to the visiting students.

The students of Bucharest participated as volunteers in the activities organized by the 96th Engineer Battalion, the 2nd 'Calugareni' Infantry Battalion, 1 CIMIC Battalion, the Military Police Battalion, the 300th 'Sarmis' Support Battalion, 'Regele Ferdinand I' National Military Museum, the Emergency Military Hospital 'Dr. Carol Davila', the 48th Strategic Communications and Information Center and the 90th Air Lift Base.

The program included a usual military training day, when the attendants threw maneuver hand grenades, detected metal objects, conducted field instruction, played interactive games and specialists offered them information on the equipment and weapons of the Romanian military.

With this project, the Ministry of National Defence offered the participating students the possibility to discover aspects of the military life and to get informed on the possibilities to access military education.

The event 'Armata - O scoala altfel' [The Armed Forces A Different Kind of School] is meant to satisfy the curiosity of the young generation and to offer them a realistic perspective on the missions and role of the Romanian Armed Forces in society.
