Defence Minister Mircea Dusa met with his Estonian counterpart, Sven Mikser, on September 4, as part of the NATO Summit from The Wales.

The official talks started with an assessment of the security environment from the Eastern flank of the Alliance. The Romanian defence minister told his counterpart that Romania blames the serious infringement of sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighboring state by not respecting the international legislation.

As part of NATO, Estonia stands for a key ally in the promotion of security interests of the allies in the Eastern flank. That is why minister Dusa emphasized this common approach benefits arising from necessary and overarching reassuring measures.

The Romanian defence minister considered that NATO’s exercise program has a defining role and stated that 'we support the efforts of making the Maritime Strategy operational, the Baltic Sea and Black Sea from the Euro-Atlantic space being of utmost importance'.

The two officials supported the idea of strengthening the bilateral cooperation, especially in the current international context that obliges the states with common interests to consolidate dialogue. Thus, minister Mircea Dusa supported the initiation of cooperation in the cyber-defence and defence intelligence fields.

In the cyber-defence field, the Romanian defence minister emphasized the activity of NATO Centre of Excellence Tallinn and was in favor of initiating cooperation in this field between Romanian and Estonia.

When concluding, Mircea Dusa spotlighted the fact that Romania has constantly raised during debates the issue of the strategic importance and relevance of the allied countries forming the Eastern flank of the Alliance. That is why, 'this situation makes us look together for cooperation ways that can add value ', the Romanian defence minister said.
