The Defence Minister, at the Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Defence from the EU member states

On September 9 and 10, the Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, will participate at the Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Defence from the EU member states, in Milano. This is the first high level reunion organized by the Italian Chairmanship of the EU Council.

September 9 will start with two working sessions, one dedicated to the assessment of the security situation from Ukraine, Iraq and Syria and the other one to the implementation process of the conclusions of December 2013 European Council, in the new international context. The reunion will be chaired by the Italian defence minister, Roberta Pinotti.

EU-NATO cooperation in the field of rapid reaction capability, EU-Ukraine relation, development of a political framework on systematic cooperation, the funding of EU missions and operations and the competitiveness of the European defence industries were some of the topics listed on the agenda of the two work sessions of the first reunion day.

September 10 will consist in a working session dedicated to the European Defence Agency and will focus on the cooperation for the development of certain credible military capabilities.

The defence ministers’ talks will also focus on two aspects of EU-led military operations: the executive mandate operations - Atalanta, EUFOR RCA and EUFOR Althea and the training missions EUTM Mali and EUTM Somalia.
