EU-s neighboring security context and the implementation status of the conclusions of 2013 European Council -topics on the agenda of the Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Defence from the EU member states

In the first day of the reunion, the defence ministers of the EU member states approached the security environment from Ukraine, Iraq, Libya and Syria, the talks focusing on the exchange of opinions and action guidelines at strategic level.

In this context, the Romanian defence minister, Mircea Dusa, stated the fact that Romania pays 'great attention to the evolution of the security environment from Ukraine, which affects regional and European stability. Thus, we should have integrated and firm positions at EU and NATO level on the new strategic security environment from the Eastern proximity of the two organizations'.

Topics such as EU`’s rapid reaction capabilities and the building of credible military structures were listed in the agenda of the talks between the defence ministers.

'EU-NATO cooperation on rapid reaction displayed against potential security threats is essential; the rapid and efficient implementation of the measures on the increase of flexibility and the employment degree of these capabilities is a priority', minister Dusa stated.

Funding the EU missions and operators, the development of the Implementation Plan for the EU’s Maritime Security Strategy, the cyber-defence and the European capability development, will be the topics of the second day’s agenda of the informal reunion of the defence ministers, which takes place at Milano.
